Hello family and friends.
Today, I want to tell you how and where the celebration of Mother's Day began.
The story is very remote and it is the seventeenth century in England. There
began a celebration called "Sunday to serve mothers". As we all know
those were times when slavery was lawful, but we must highlight a beautiful
fact as follows: The masters gave their slaves that day off to be with their
mothers. But I do not want to focus on such a distant past; rather I want to
tell you the origin of this celebration here in the United States because I
consider it tender and beautiful. In the year 1905 in Philadelphia lived a girl
named Ana Jarvis, who after the death of her mother decided to write to the
congressmen, religious, lawyers and politicians, that is to say all the great
characters of that time asking them support the project to celebrate Mother's
Day on the second Sunday of each May (for this was precisely the day of her
mother's death). This project was very well received because it came from a
pure and innocent girl. So it was that by 1910 it was celebrated in almost the
whole country, but the young Jarvis wanted her complete triumph. So she kept
fighting until she got the United States Congress to present a bill in favor of
the Mother's Day Celebration throughout the United States.
In 1914 after deliberating and approving the project, President Woodrow Wilson signed and proclaimed Mother's Day as a national holiday, which should be celebrated on the second Sunday of May. Then many other countries joined in this celebration. I thought that Mother’s Day consisted of a celebration imposed by the merchants with the purpose of increasing their sales, but I realize now that we need to know more about history.
Mother's Day is a very special celebration. So let me highlight the characteristics of mothers. They are first kind and nice, some believers and pious; they are always alert of everything and they are hard workers and intercesors. They are also nurses, teachers and psychologists, and in some cases they are mother and father at the same time. They are cute, smiling, affectionate, and good cooks, although there are some who do not like to cook. There are also those who are very friendly and at the same time some others are of bad character, but it is because they need to be embraced and more valued. They deserve to be honored 365 days a year. Moms do not have a favorite son, but if they devote themselves with soul and body to the weak and disadvantaged. Remember also that for a mother a child is not an error, it is not a problem, it is not a burden, it is not an inconvenience, it is not a nuisance, it is not an accident, it is not a punishment; a child is a blessing from God. So it is a love not only of the heart which at any moment could stop functioning, but it is also an integral love of the soul, which is eternal. If we want to hear the voice of God very, very much, we have to read the Bible very, very much, which is the Word of God.
