My husband and I were raised in Catholic families in Colombia, and from an early age our parents taught us the fundamental moral principles of the Catholic religion. But on April of 1989, when we were born again, we began to understand the true meaning of being a Christian and since then our relationship with God has become more personal. Since then we began to write. José Joaquin wrote reflections about the love of God and messages of hope for humanity, and I wrote wise advice for all families everywhere.

The best Gift



THE BEST GIFT  



How foolish is the person who asks for insignificant gifts from a rich friend, without considering the things of true value that friend could offer him! And there is no greater fool than the one who asks for trivialities from God, rejecting the most valuable gift of all: the divine presence in their heart that leads them to salvation.  

The Lord said on one occasion: "Which of you fathers, if your son asks for bread, will you give him a stone? Or if he asks for fish, will you give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will you give him a scorpion? For if you, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!" (Luke 11:11–13)  

When we receive Christ into our heart, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within us. You cannot imagine a greater privilege than this. To obtain it, our Creator provided a simple and complete plan. It cannot be bought with money, nor with rites, nor with tears—but you receive it when you follow these four steps:

First, confess that you are a sinner;

Second, confess that you cannot save yourself;

Third, recognize that God loves you and that He became human to die on the cross and thus pay for our sins;

Fourth, accept Jesus Christ as your Savior and the Lord of your life.  

Nowadays, interpersonal communication is not as it once was. Even social media use words in a language people understand to ensure clear connection. God also takes this into account. Therefore, He chose to communicate His message of love and salvation to the world through a means understandable to all. God selected human language to show, in clear and definite terms, that He desires only the good of every human being. How far would the Creator go to communicate with us? The answer is the birth of Jesus on this planet Earth. The reality of Christmas is that God communicated through a Person who, though He was God, was also fully human—just like us in every detail. Jesus is the most important Word ever spoken, for in His person He revealed God the Father. Let us never forget that Jesus declared: "I and the Father are one" (John 10:30).
