My husband and I were raised in Catholic families in Colombia, and from an early age our parents taught us the fundamental moral principles of the Catholic religion. But on April of 1989, when we were born again, we began to understand the true meaning of being a Christian and since then our relationship with God has become more personal. Since then we began to write. José Joaquin wrote reflections about the love of God and messages of hope for humanity, and I wrote wise advice for all families everywhere.

ADVICE FOR OLDER AND YOUNGER PEOPLE

Hello family and friends. I want to tell you that on October 20th I turned 92 years old. This was an opportunity to celebrate the miracle of a long life with my family. That day I shared this message with my loved ones, which I now want to share with you, about old age. This doesn't mean that the advice is only for the elderly, but also for young people who live with elderly loved ones.

Old age always surprises us all. We want to live many years but not grow old. So let's always remember the following advice: Take care of your appearance every day and dress as if you were going to a party. What better party than life itself? Don't lock yourself away anywhere as if you were a voluntary prisoner; you should go out frequently and with purpose, without forgetting that stagnant water rots and an idle machine rusts. Find someone to serve. A little exercise, a reasonable walk, and reading something you enjoy will do you a lot of good. Let's be very active and kind. For example: Opening the door for someone, watering the garden, making a phone call, that is, any movement that gets you off your armchair and out of your comfort zone. Don't feel like a broken-down old person; you shouldn't walk with your head down or sit with your back bent, so that whoever passes by can say to you: How handsome you look! Remember: gray hairs can be dyed and wrinkles can be disguised with a smile. Don't talk about your age, nor about your ailments; always answer: I'm very well, thank God! Be positive, cultivate optimism. Old age is not a matter of years, but of spirit. The soul does not age, it is the body that wrinkles. Try to be useful to yourself and others as much as possible. You should always be loving, considerate, and kind. The following advice is truly important: We must be people of great faith in Jesus Christ, our Creator and Redeemer, a faith manifested by reading the Word of God, that is, the Bible, day after day. In this way, we will set a good example for our children and for all people.

We must always be mindful of our behavior so that those who see and hear us are influenced by our good deeds and are drawn to our clean and honest life. Remember that with our drive and enthusiasm we can demonstrate the greatness of our soul and show the path that our descendants should follow. May our deepest desire be fulfilled, that each new generation be better than the last. Do not feel useless in your old age. Many people need your love, joy, and smile. The only important thing is to have learned to love and to take only the good from life. Let us pray that God will always occupy the first place in our families and be our focus so that we can concentrate on the things of Heaven, not the things of Earth, for these are fleeting. Remember that the years wrinkle our skin, but the lack of God and enthusiasm weakens our soul.

With much love,

María Fanny Agudelo
