My husband and I were raised in Catholic families in Colombia, and from an early age our parents taught us the fundamental moral principles of the Catholic religion. But on April of 1989, when we were born again, we began to understand the true meaning of being a Christian and since then our relationship with God has become more personal. Since then we began to write. José Joaquin wrote reflections about the love of God and messages of hope for humanity, and I wrote wise advice for all families everywhere.

MOM SMILES

The joyful heart beautifies the face

Proverbs 15: 13a

Hello family and friends. Some time ago I had told you about the origin of Mother's Day. Today I want to repeat it in a few words since I am sure that you have forgotten it, because we are all forgetful. Jesus Christ himself says that we must read the Bible every day because of our memory, so that we can put into practice all its commandments and all its teachings.

At the root of Mother's Day is a noble young woman named Anna Jarvis from Philadelphia, USA. It is a tender story since when she was very young her mother died on a second Sunday in May 1905. From that day on, the young woman decided to write to all influential personalities,

such as politicians, teachers, lawyers, community leaders, and religious, asking they help to pass a law that would make the celebration of Mother's Day official and that this was precisely in the anniversary of the death of their mother. This is how this celebration began in the United States and the decree was signed by President Woodrow Wilson in 1914. Later, other countries were celebrating Mother's Day as well, and for this reason this celebration became worldwide.

Now I ask you, what do our children imagine when they hear the word mother? Can they imagine a pleasant woman who motivates them with affectionate expressions and a cheerful disposition? Or, on the contrary, will they see a grumpy woman with a disgruntled expression on her face, or perhaps with an angry look that makes it scary to imagine what the

children feel at that moment? A simple smile offered constantly can mean a world of difference in the way our children perceive life. It is not easy to smile when we do not feel like doing it in the midst of so much disappointment, but as good moms we have to recognize that a good smile is not the result of a pleasant feeling, but a gift that we give to our children and also to everyone around us. When we give a smile, we lift the spirits of everyone around us and help them to end the day happy. A smile says thousands of things to our children. Smiling is something we can decide to do, whether we feel like doing it or not, it is an act of kindness. Thus we can confirm, with the prophet
Nehemiah, that the joy of the Lord is our strength (Nehemiah 8:10). That is precisely the strength we need to end the day with a smile on our face and there will always be something to smile about. Not only our children but everyone in general needs to receive smiles.
Remember that to smile it is necessary to have the heart full of the joy of the Lord, since on the outside we manifest what we carry inside. That is why we say that the eyes are a mirror of the soul. A cheerful heart is a remedy for all evil, a sad spirit dries up the bones (Proverbs 17:22). What do you choose?

Did you know how great a mother's love for her children is, loving them more than herself and wanting the best for them? Mothers also bring harmony to the home and teach love with their tenderness, making the world more beautiful. Mothers are wives, sisters, grandmothers, friends, and more. And I want to end by saying that when happiness is shared, joy is contagious, generosity is poured out, and everyone around is blessed. In this way each day becomes wonderful. It is worth smiling as a reflection of having JESUS CHRIST in your heart!

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY 2021!

With love,

Maria Fanny Agudelo
